Dr. Rekha Arcot, a distinguished medical professional with over 30 years of experience, currently serves as the Dean at Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, Pimpri, Pune. She has built a remarkable career spanning leadership, research and academic excellence in some of India’s leading medical institutions, including Saveetha Medical College, Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Sri Ramachandra Medical College.
Dr. Arcot’s leadership expertise is exemplified by her decade-long tenure in academic and clinical administration. She has successfully managed critical responsibilities such as academics, accreditation, international collaborations, quality assurance and examinations. Her visionary approach has fostered growth and innovation in medical education and clinical operations at various institutions.
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Arcot specializes in general surgery, breast and endocrine surgery, laparoscopic techniques and trauma management. She has served as the principal investigator for numerous clinical trials, contributing to the advancement of medical science. Dr. Arcot’s global training includes a Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery from the University of Strasbourg, France and trauma management training in Johannesburg, South Africa. In 2020, she was conferred the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow, adding to her international recognition.
Dr. Arcot holds an MBBS from Government Kilpauk Medical College (1991) and an MS in General Surgery from Stanley Medical College (1997). She also holds an FRCS (G) from the Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow, along with certifications in healthcare management from the Indian School of Business, a PG Diploma in Clinical Research and advanced medical education training from the Medical Council of India.
Dr. Arcot’s contributions to the field of medicine have earned her several accolades, including the prestigious G.G. Chatterjee Fellowship awarded by the Association of Surgeons of India and the ISSF Travel Scholar Award. She has delivered keynote addresses and orations at national conferences such as ASICON and NAAC-sponsored events. Her academic pursuits are reflected in her extensive research output, with over 90 publications in national and international journals to her credit.
As an active member of professional organizations, Dr. Arcot is affiliated with the Association of Surgeons of India, the Indian Medical Association, the Association of Breast Surgeons of India and the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons, where she holds a fellowship.
