Sujata is a passionate sustainability advocate, a proud TEDx speaker, and a loving mother to her son, dog, and plants. A graduate of CET Bhubaneswar and IIFT Delhi, Sujata spent seven years working with organizations like Essar Group, Jindal Group, and was doing her PhD in e-commerce from IIT Bombay when she decided to take a bold leap into entrepreneurship.
Along with her sister Taniya, she co-founded Suta, a brand built on the principles of mindfulness and empowering weavers especially women across India. Suta started in the year 2016 with two weavers and a big dream. Today they work with 17000 weavers and artisans, 295 employees and 60 % of which are women. Suta also has a retail presence, 12 stores across India.
Suta is known to have revolutionised sarees. It’s a bootstrapped company and is at a run rate of 90 crore for 2025.
Sujata’s journey hasn’t gone unnoticed—she’s been featured as one of the Forbes India W-Power Trailblazers, recognizing her as a trailblazing woman leader in business. Suta has also caught the attention of leading publications like Vogue India, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and The Economic Times, all applauding the brand’s innovative approach to mindful fashion.
From quitting her PhD to build something that aligns with her values, Sujata’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and creating change—one stitch at a time.
