Akshun Garg is the visionary entrepreneur behind\u00a0The\u00a0Green\u00a0Way, a sustainable clothing firm shaking up the fashion sector with environmentally friendly production and supply for B2B and B2C markets. Committed to addressing environmental issues, Akshun uses a solid finance and analytics background to propel\u00a0The\u00a0Green\u00a0Way’s\u00a0vision: combining profitability with purpose to\u00a0facilitate\u00a0sustainability in an industry shunned for being the second or third largest global waste generator.\u00a0In spite of\u00a0sustainability so\u00a0frequently\u00a0being put on the backburner, Akshun’s unwavering passion for a more sustainable future\u00a0is endeavouring\u00a0to the develop\u00a0a new normal in the fashion industry\u2014a one where\u00a0the first thought of using any raw material\u00a0will be\u00a0to use a sustainable\/organic substitute<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A 2023 Indiana University Kelley School of Business graduate, Akshun has a Finance major and a co-major in Business Analytics. During academics, learning from ethics courses kindled a profound sense of the environmental impact of the fashion world, which motivated the establishment of\u00a0The\u00a0Green\u00a0Way. Experience in leadership as a Zonal Interact Representative for Rotary District 3011 in high school, along with positions at Indiana University as a Peer Tutor and member of the Global Living Learning\u00a0Center, developed Akshun’s ability to work in teams, communicate, and think globally. These experiences give Akshun the determination to create a company\u00a0centered\u00a0on ethical manufacturing and bring about industry reform.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The path to setting up\u00a0The\u00a0Green\u00a0Way\u00a0was not easy. A year and half of intensive research and working with various vendors and manufacturing units\u2014changing partners four to five times\u2014Akshun worked in an environment where sustainability in India is still not seriously considered. Some of the vendors dropped out of the project at the sample development stage, and other vendors were unwilling to spend time on a startup working towards a greener tomorrow. Akshun, though, despite meeting with hurdles like design constraints, vendors who did not want to offer certifications\u00a0such as GOTS and\u00a0Oeko-tex, production holdups, minimum order quantities (MOQs) for dyeing, and sourcing partners accepting a startup, remained committed. To design a competitive but sustainable product, Greenways partnered with leading designers from the London School of Design, NIFT, and Pearl, designing a style that changes industry benchmarks while being attractive to emerging markets.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Appreciating the varying consumer needs,\u00a0The\u00a0Green\u00a0Way\u00a0introduced three\u00a0different brands, each marking a specific market segment.\u00a0The Three Brands –\u00a0Scope3,\u00a0nbyo, and\u00a0eliius\u2014target distinct market segments, with\u00a0nbyo\u00a0and\u00a0eliius\u00a0driving B2C sustainability awareness. However, Scope3’s focus on corporate sustainability can create larger-scale impact by leading high-volume change.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This strategic move reflects Akshun’s drive and need to tap the closing window for preventing irrevocable harm to the environment. Although becoming carbon neutral is still a long-term vision,\u00a0The\u00a0Green\u00a0Way\u00a0works toward it with support from the community. Every step of the supply chain, from raw materials to accessories, focuses on traceability and authenticity to gain confidence from consumers. Through providing a solution towards sustainability, albeit with the limitations at present,\u00a0The Green Way\u00a0looks to make sustainable fashion affordable and effective.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Akshun believes sustainability is a necessity, not a trend.
