Mr Sanjeev Churiwala assumed the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Tata Power, one of India’s largest integrated power companies, on January 1st, 2022.

With a distinguished career spanning nearly three decades, he brings in a wealth of expertise from the financial services sector.

Mr Churiwala’s leadership has been instrumental in driving Tata Power’s growth trajectory. His adept financial management skills, coupled with a strong strategic mindset, have positioned the Company for sustainable and profitable expansion.

In his role as CFO, Mr Churiwala is focused on driving financial performance across business clusters, through rigour and synergy in capital allocation and investment & risk management decisions, investor relations and business strategy.

Mr. Churiwala spearheaded setting up of India’s most comprehensive green energy platform consisting of all the next generation renewables businesses, including Utility Scale Solar, Wind & Hybrid Generation assets; Solar Cell & Module Manufacturing; Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contracting; Rooftop Solar infrastructure; Solar Pumps and Electric Vehicle Charging infrastructure. The platform drew an investment of ~US$ 525 million from a BlackRock Real Assets-led consortium, including Mubadala.

He is helping the company raise green finance and is also credited for raising USD $320-million worth of sustainability-linked loans from foreign lenders.

Mr Churiwala’s contributions continue to shape the success and growth of Tata Power as it moves confidently into its next phase of expansion led by a portfolio of green energy products and solutions.

He has a rich experience in the various domains of finance and corporate management. His expertise includes financial reporting and controlling, efficient management of supply chains, fundraising, and strategic mergers & acquisitions.

Prior to his joining Tata Power, Mr. Churiwala held the role as the Regional Finance Director- APAC and Global Travel Retail at Diageo. He also had a stint at Ambuja Cements, then part of the Holcim Group.

His holistic understanding of both Indian and international business landscapes has been invaluable in navigating the challenges and opportunities of the industry.

Mr. Churiwala holds an Executive MBA degree from the London Business School. Additionally, he is a distinguished fellow member of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, and the Institute of Cost Accountants of India.

In 2019, he received the prestigious “Best CFO Award in the FMCG industry” from ICAI. In 2015, he received the “Best CMA CFO-2014 Award among private sector companies in the manufacturing sector” awarded by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India. In 2011, Mr. Churiwala received the Best CFO Award from Business Today for commitment towards Triple Bottom Line ethos of People, Planet & Profit.
