Dr Chandrakant Lahariya- widely regarded as ‘the pill-free doctor’- and is one of India’s leading specialist in preventive and cardiometabolic medicine. He is an internationally certified metabolic health coach and a highly respected voice in health policy.
He has been trained at some of the country’s most prestigious institutions, completing his MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, and his MD from Lady Hardinge Medical College, New Delhi. He has also undergone advanced clinical trainings, certificates and mid-career fellowships conduct by globally renowned institutions, including Harvard Medical School, Johns Hopkins University, Emory University, in United States and the Royal College of Physicians, UK. Dr Lahariya has helped many people reduce their prescription pills while improving their health, and he considers this ability—reducing medications while enhancing well-being—his mini superpower.
In 2025, Dr Lahariya became the first and the only Indian till date to receive the prestigious Wiley Research Heroes Award in 2025. Since 2020, he has consistently been ranked among the top 2% of global researchers in clinical medicine in a Stanford University-led analysis. In 2012, he received the Dr B. C. Srivastava Foundation Award from the Government of India and the Indian Council of Medical Research for excellence in medical research.
He is a Fellow and active member of several leading professional bodies, including the International Society of Hypertension, the International Diabetes Federation, the American College of Physicians, and the Research Society for the Study of Diabetes in India.
Beyond his clinical and academic work, Dr Lahariya has served as a staff member, advisor, and subject expert to leading international organizations such as the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank and the Asian Development bank, contributing to health programs in more than 50 countries.
A compelling science communicator, he writes regularly for leading newspapers, including The Hindu, Hindustan Times, and The Asian Age, and authors a widely read fortnightly column in Dainik Bhaskar. He has appeared on global and national media platforms such as BBC World, CNN International, NDTV, India Today, and CNN-News18.
His first book, Till We Win: India’s Fight Against COVID-19 Pandemic, was published in 2020. He lives in New Delhi. His upcoming book is “Pill-Free” being published by Penguin Random House India and slated for release in Sept 2026.
