Vivek Sen

Vivek Sen is the India Director for Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), a global non-profit research and advisory institution working on climate finance and the energy transition. He leads CPI’s efforts to design innovative finance and policy solutions that support the Government of India’s green growth agenda. 

At CPI, Vivek has been instrumental in establishing the Center for Sustainable Finance, the Just Transition Program, and the Low Carbon Transition Program. He also established CPI’s Project Preparatory Facilities – the India Clean Energy Finance Facility – which helps unlock long-term domestic and international capital for hard-to-finance sectors in India. He further advises the India chapter of the Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance, a platform mobilizing climate finance both in India and globally. 

With over 18 years of experience across renewable energy, climate and green finance, and energy transition, Vivek has worked closely with the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Ministry of Power, MoEFCC, Bureau of Energy Efficiency, and NITI Aayog, as well as state governments, regulators, and financial institutions. He has also collaborated extensively with multilateral and bilateral agencies, including ADB, IFC, GIZ, DFID, and the US Department of Energy, as well as philanthropic organizations, academia, and the private sector. 

Vivek regularly contributes to public discourse on climate finance and the energy transition, with his views featured in leading publications and media. He has co-authored several reports and white papers and has represented CPI at major global and national forums, including COP26, GIIN, CFL, BIMSTEC, ICDRI, and FoR, among others. 

Prior to joining CPI, Vivek held leadership and advisory roles at the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, Power Exchange India Limited, and PwC. 

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration.
