I am pleased to introduce Mr. Samit Datta, who currently holds the portfolio of Global Chief Supply Chain, Technology and Manufacturing Excellence officer for PGP Glass. He plays a strategic role of leading the Supply Chain function consisting global sourcing, logistics and warehousing in a business landscape of more than 80% exports. His role also has a specific emphasis on IT and Digital Transformation leveraging AI technologies.

Mr. Datta has 30 years of international experience in various industries, having worked with leading companies like Piramal Group, Siemens, General Motors, Texmaco, Indonesia, PwC and IBM. In his current role, he handles commercial functions of sourcing and logistics along with managing IT and digital analytics departments. He has a proven track record of leading business transformation and operational excellence projects across industries and functions. He has been instrumental in Energy management & sustainability projects setting up renewable power installation with investments of 90 Cr. Quiet recently he has led a 50 Cr. greenfield capacity expansion project in paper packaging, turning it profitable in a span of 13 months.

Specifically in Supply Chain role, he has headed 3 businesses across 3 continents, 6 countries and 18 manufacturing sites with annual spends of more than 6500Crs. This roles covered various materials and services around minerals, chemicals, OEM, MRO, Capital equipment, logistics and manpower services.

Mr. Datta has shown versatility and acumen in managing diverse roles like Strategic business planning, M&A, IT enablement, Digital and Analytics transformation, P&L leadership along with serving on board of directors of subsidiary companies.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the NIT, Durgapur, and a Master of Business Administration in Operations Management from SP Jain Institute of Management & Research, Mumbai.

On a personal front he is married to Shalini Datta, who is also a Mechanical Engineer and a MBA in Finance. Samit is blessed with 2 daughters, Sohini & Shubhika. Like most Indians, he took up Cricket as his passion going on to represent his school & university. He is an avid cyclist and loves to listen to all forms of music – being a trained Hindustani Classical music practitioner.
