He works on addressing societal problems through a Data-Driven Systems approach that has resulted in various disruptive innovations in product and process.<\/p>\n<p><br><\/p>\n<p>As a pioneer in Design Thinking and Disruptive Innovation, he had successfully developed and implemented innovations across Government, Industry and academia. These include:<\/p>\n<p>1. Suzhal Management System (SMS) and the innovation framework, RBG Innovation Paradigm (RIP), has been used as demonstrative methodology for bringing about systemic changes and disruptive innovation across various industries. Some of the key process innovations have brought about substantive improvement in productivity and technological upgrading in labor-intensive sectors.<br>2. Developed an integrated road accident database, initially as TARA in TN, which was subsequently adopted by MoRTH, GoI as iRAD (renamed as eDAR). This National database had been deployed across all the Districts of all the 36 States and UT. This program involved aligning various stakeholders, i.e., police, health, transport and road owing agencies which are State subjects to create a pathway for data-driven Governance.<br>3. Conceptualized and helped implement a comprehensive trauma care system based on SMS and lean operations in Tamil Nadu as TAEI. This system was replicated successfully in Rajasthan as MAEI.<br>4. A framework to ensure emergency care (lifesaving critical diagnosis and interventions) to all was advocated for the first 48 hours after an accident. This was introduced in Tamil Nadu and subsequently being implemented in Rajasthan and across India. This policy suggestion led to a comprehensive assurance scheme called Nallam Kappom 48 hrs (NK48) in Tamil Nadu.<br>5. Developed and commercialized India\u2019s first IoT based non-vision based driver behavior, performance and fatigue monitoring device, Intelliseat\u2122. This product won the auto component of the year Award in 2018.<br>6. Developed and commercialized India\u2019s first bioprosthetic scaffold material to be used in various cardiac and plastic surgeries. This is commercially sold as SynkroScaff by a start-up.<br>7. Developed and commercialized a microvascular clamp that can reduce the skill required to perform a micro-vascular and plastic surgeries. This is commercially sold as Shira Clamp by Start-up.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><br><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Balasubramanian had pursued a passion in leadership development. He had helped develop and Co Chaired a one-year management program (PGPEX), Visionary Leaders for Manufacturing (VLFM). This program was adopted as the skill and leadership development initiative of the \u201cMake-in-India\u201d vision of GoI.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><br><\/p>\n<p>He had also developed programs for building leadership in engineering and manufacturing excellence for various large and medium sized manufacturing companies. He served as the advisor for NHM, Government of Tamil Nadu, Department of Transport and Road Safety, Government of Rajasthan &amp; Department of Transport for Government of Haryana. He continues to serve as Member of the Expert Advisory Group of MoRTH, Independent Director of Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation Ltd and Member of Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) of C-DAC, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
