Methodology

The preparation of the net-zero tracker involves the study of a company’s publicly available information in sustainability reports, integrated reports, annual reports and websites. The relevant information is extracted checked for consistency and collated. On a regular basis, the data is updated to ensure recency.

Legend

Company name: Full name of the company

Net-zero target year: The year in which the company expects to achieve net-zero

Year: Year for which the emissions data pertains

Direct emissions/ Scope 1 (tCO2e): Greenhouse (GHG) emissions that occur from sources that are controlled or owned by an organization measured in tons of carbon dioxide equivalent

Indirect emissions/Scope 2 (tCO2e):  Greenhouse (GHG) emissions associated with the purchase of electricity, steam, heat, or cooling measured in tons of carbon dioxide equivalent

Scope 3 emissions (tCO2e): Greenhouse (GHG)  emissions that are the result of activities from assets not owned or controlled by the reporting organization, but that the organization indirectly impacts in its value chain. These are measured in tons of carbon dioxide equivalent

Scope 1 and 2 (tCO2e): This is the total of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Relevant when companies don’t report Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions separately.

GHG emission intensity: This is calculated by dividing the absolute emissions (the numerator) by an organization-specific metric (the denominator). The denominator relates to the intensity of the specific activity. Most companies report GHG intensity as GHG Emissions (scope 1 and 2) divided by Revenue in crores or millions. In other cases, the GHG emission may be divided by an industry metric — GHG Emission divided by FTEs (full-time employees) or tonne of production.
