Director General Medical Services (Army)

Lt Gen Arindam Chatterjee, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal is an alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune and was commissioned on 20 Dec 1984 in the Armed Forces Medical Services. The General Officer completed his MD in Hospital Administration in 2003.

The General Officer has extensive service in the early years as Regimental Medical Officer with Infantry Battalions in operational areas and in Regimental Centres. During his 39 years of service, the General Officer has held numerous important administrative and staff appointment like Director General (Operation & Personnel) Armed Forces Medical Services, Major General (Medical) at Headquarters Central Command, Brigadier (Medical) at Headquarters Southern Command, Brigadier Armed Forces Medical Services (Human Resources) and Deputy Assistant Director of Medical Services, HQ IMTRAT (Bhutan). He has Commanded a 182 bedded mid-zonal Military Hospital at Ahmednagar and a 600 bedded super specialty hospital at Army Institute of Cardio Thoracic Sciences, Pune. He has also held instructional appointments as a Professor in Hospital Administration at the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College, Pune.

The General Officer assumed the appointment of Director General of Medical Service (Army) on 21 Mar 2023. Prior to assuming his present appointment, General Officer held the appointment of Director General Medical Services (Navy) from         02 Jan 2023 to 20 Mar 2023.

The General Officer was instrumental in managing the 23 Armed Forces Medical Hospitals, amongst the 62 med/ dental units of various sizes. He established and successfully managed 03x Covid Hospitals namely a 750 bedded Pandit Rajan Mishra Covid Hospital at Varanasi, 500 bedded Shri Atal Bihari Bajpayee Covid Hospital at Lucknow and a 500 bedded ESIC hospital at Patna in collaboration with Ministry of Defence and Defence Research and Development Organization.

The General Officer is presently tenanting the prestigious appointment of Director General of Medical Service (Army) where in he is spearheading the Planning and Management of 260 medical units including Human Resources, logistics, financial, legal and health supervision of the same as its Head of Services.

The General Officer was conferred with Chief of Army Staff Commendations Cards in the years 2006, 2008, 2010 & 2015 and the Army Training Command Commendation Card in 2015 for his devotion and dedication to his duties.

Further, the General Officer has also been awarded with Presidential Awards of Vishisht Seva Medal in Jan 2021 and Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in Jan 2023 for his contributions during Covid pandemic and contributions to the Armed Forces Medical Services.

The General Officer pursues his hobbies of reading, Transactional Analysis & listening to music regularly.
