Dr. M.V. Ramana Murthy, Mission Director of Deep Ocean Mission of Ministry of Earth Sciences and served as Director, National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR). He is Doctorate from IIT, Chennai and Masters in Planning. Specialized in Infrastructure projects, Desalination, Coastal Zone Management, Coastal Hazards ( Tsunami, Strom Surge and Urban Floods), Maine Pollution, Flood Warning System and Offshore Wind. Having 30 years of experience in Ocean Technology and Coastal Research, he has successfully demonstrated many societal oriented projects such as Establishment of Desalination Plants in UT Lakshadweep, Coastal protection and Beach Restoration at Pondicherry and Urban Flood Warning System (I Flows) for Mumbai and Chennai, Monitoring Health of Coastal Waters as part of SDG 14. Recently completed projects include preparation of DPR for Kalpsar Dam with Govt of Gujarat to create a largest fresh water reservoir and Integrated Ocean Management initiative for development of framework for Blue Economy to be implemented by govt of India and Shoreline Management plans for Coastal States of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Recent assignment include Development of Marine Spatial Plans for ecologically sensitive area of Lakshadweep islands for holistic development and Pondicherry, an urban city along south east coast of India and Nature based Solutions for Coastal Protection. The other areas of work include development of ICZM and, Feasibility studies for Offshore Wind, technical services to central/state governments and industry with more 150+ projects. 170 publications. He is AICTE – INAE Distinguished Visiting Professor under (DVP) Scheme, Senate Member in Universities, Chairman of Research Advisory Board, Member of Peer Review Committee of IITM, Chennai and member of many technical and policy formulation committees and member of MoEF&CC as Expert Appraisal committee for Infra structure and CRZ projects . Recent international collaboration include – India Pacific Ocean Initiative (IPOI) for Marine Ecology Pillar with Australia, Coastal Protection with Vietnam, Sea level Change and Marine Litter with JAMSTEC and Establishment of Coastal Research Facility at Fiji. He established a state of facility for National Centre for Coastal Research ( NCCR) at Visakhapatnam. Recipient of Ocean Technology award of 2021 and served as President of Ocean Society of India.
