Mamatha Venkatesh leads Startup India, DPIIT, the Government of India’s flagship initiative to build a robust ecosystem for nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship. She brings over 15 years of cross-sector experience spanning venture capital and ecosystem development. Before joining Startup India, Mamatha worked with Accel and the Government of Karnataka, where she spearheaded ecosystem engagement programs, driving collaborations in sustainability, education, and urban innovation. She previously spent nearly a decade at Goldman Sachs, gaining deep expertise in enterprise enablement, cross-functional collaboration, and people leadership.  

At Startup India, Mamatha is focused on strengthening initiatives that benefit early-stage ventures, women entrepreneurs, and regional innovation hubs, while also deepening global collaborations. Under her leadership, the program is entering a new era of dynamism, catalysing sustainability-focused startups, tech-for-good ventures, and social innovation platforms, aligned with India’s vision of becoming a $5 trillion economy powered by entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and job creation.
