He is a thought leader, strategist and an institution builder, recognized for his commitment to Business excellence and contribution to Corporate Governance, Sustainability, ESG & SDGs space in India and Asia Region. He is the Chairman of Mahendra & Young Knowledge Foundation and Vice Chairman, Global Advisory Board, Asian Centre for Corporate Governance & Sustainability. Prof. Chouhan has been Distinguished Professor, Executive Education of Indian Institute of Management – Mumbai (IIM-M). A seasoned business professional with more than 23 years of Board level experience as independent director on Public listed as well as unlisted Cos. within India and outside India. He has been the founding Chairman of Fino Payment Bank. He has been Independent Director on the Boards of companies from sectors like Banking, Financial Services, Housing Finance (HFC), Education Finance (NBFC), Online B2B Marketplace Company, Exhibition & Trade Fair, Manufacturing, Capital Goods, Pharmaceuticals, etc. Mahendra holds a certificate from Global Corporate Governance Forum, IFC – World Bank Group, as trainer for the board of directors. He has been Consultant to IFC – World Bank Group and been their nominee Director on several companies, within and outside India. He is MD of Mahendra & Ardneham Consulting (P) Ltd, a successful board advisory consulting company, and advises companies on Board Constitution, Board Charter, Building cohesive Boards, Enhancing Board Effectiveness, and Board Evaluation. He also advises on – How to improve Business Performance by embedding Sustainability & ESG in their corporate strategy. Mr. Chouhan spends a considerable amount of his time for non-profit activities and is the founding Dean of Mervyn King Academy for Sustainable Development in Asia, board member of IMC, Chamber of Commerce & Industry & former President of Bombay Management Association. He has been member of SEBI Committee on Corporate Governance as well as the Ministry of Corporate Affairs Committee for the National Policy on Corporate Governance. He is visiting faculty at Jamanalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, has been visiting faculty at International Law school at Tilburg University, The Netherlands, faculty at IIT Mumbai’s Shailesh J Mehta School of Management and at Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), under Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Outside India, he is member of the Global Board of International Institute of Governance & Leadership, The Netherlands. He is also a member of the Integrated Reporting & Connectivity Council (IRCC) – The advisory body to the IFRS Foundation Trustees, the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). Been member of Independent Appointment Committee (IAC) of GRI, Amsterdam, IAC is 5-member global committee responsible for selecting Board members of Global Sustainability Standard Board.
