Anupama Ratta is Head – Human Resources for Tata Power Renewable Energy Company Ltd (TPREL). She comes with around 20 years’ of experience across diverse industries such as Energy & Utilities, Real Estate, FMCG, Retail, Manufacturing, Textiles, Branded Apparel and Information Technology. Her expertise lies in partnering with business in managing Organization transformation and Change, Talent Management, Organizational Development and Effectiveness, Strategic HR initiatives, Building new businesses from scratch, and Enabling rapid scale up and business growth.
In her current role, Anupama is leading the function, culture, and impact of HR across Tata Power Renewables, to support its business goals and strategies, as well as the aspirations of employees across their offices and sites. Anupama is working with leaders to build and manage an HR organization that reflects and supports their dynamic needs. With Tata Power’s focus on its Renewable energy business, she has been at the forefront of enabling profitable business growth through capacity and capability building. Over the last few years, she has been instrumental in building new organizational capabilities in consumer-oriented businesses such as Solar Rooftop and EV Charging.
Anupama is taking the green energy transition closer to community through a first-of-its-kind “Earn while you learn” Bachelor in Vocational Education in Renewable energy technology, which not only provides an opportunity to young talent in remote areas to continue their education and support their families, but also helps in the talent retention in a sector where war for talent is fierce. She has been driving a company-wide diversity & inclusion strategy, focused on promoting gender balance in a sector which has been traditionally male-dominated. One of Anupama’s major contribution in her role as Head – HR has been partnering with key stakeholders, including government bodies, for mobilization and skilling of rural women in solar manufacturing technologies, targeting 80% women workforce in their new 4GW module and 4GW cell manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, India, while also building employability in the region.
Prior to her role of leading the Human resources function for Tata Power Renewables, she was responsible for HR business partnering for Corporate Functions and New Business across Tata Power, including international businesses in Energy, Fuel and Shipping across countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, Georgia, Zambia and South Africa. She was the Diversity & Inclusion leader for Tata Power Group, where she was instrumental in designing and implementing many unique programs to improve gender diversity and inclusion, such as the Women’s Mentoring program and the Returning Mother’s coaching program. She spearheaded the conceptualization and launch of Tata Power’s Health & Wellbeing framework – A Fuller Life – which has received appreciation across the Tata Group. With her passion for handling challenging assignments that create business impact, she regularly contributed to strategic projects across the Company.
At Tata Housing, apart from enabling business growth, Anupama played a pivotal role in the merger with Tata Realty, where she worked with key stakeholders and leaders in designing the new organization structure, planning and implementing the transition, including post-merger HR and culture integration. At Raymond, she started her career as Head of HR for its FMCG business, which was a 50:50 JV with Ansell Australia. At a relatively young age, she went on to Head HR for the Retail Business of Raymond, where she implemented innovative talent and compensation strategies to drive business expansion, store performance and profitability. She was a key member of the team that successfully launched the first-of-its-kind “Made-to-Measure” format in Raymond Retail, opening several stores across the country, including the first in Dubai. She went on to Head People Processes and Leadership hiring at the Corporate office at Raymond, where she was also responsible for hiring and grooming talent from premier B-schools across the country.
Across her various stints, Anupama has led change and transformation in a fast- paced environment. Apart from leading strategy, she has a strong bias for execution. Anupama works seamlessly across stakeholders to accomplish organizational goals with and through others. She believes that leadership is about inspiring ordinary people to deliver extra ordinary results. She is constantly learning about her business. She feels spending time with business leaders, and asking the right questions can help in developing deep understanding of the business. She believes that HR has to earn a seat at the table, and the key to that is to first understand your business inside out.
Anupama is a BTech in Electrical Engineering, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources. She completed the Tata Power Advanced Management Program from IIM, Ahmedabad during the period February 2020 to November 2021.
Anupama is passionate about music and is a student of Hindustani Classical Vocal Music. She loves traveling and believes she can discover new things that she does not know. She is passionate about cooking and eating healthy. Her personal aspiration is to enable at least one lakh women to become financially independent. She loves spending her free time with her family and pet.
