Swati Maliwal, Chairperson, Delhi Commission for Women and Noted Social Activist

Swati Maliwal is an Indian social activist currently serving as the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women since July 2015. She has completely revolutionized the functioning of the commission during her tenure. The previous chairperson of the commission had heard only 1 case in 8 years, while under Swati’s leadership the commission has heard over 1,23,000 cases in 6 years! In April 2018, she sat on a hunger strike demanding stringent punishment for rapists of children and within 10 days of her strike, the Government accepted her demand and passed an ordinance for the same. One of the youngest women commissioners in the country, she is a firebrand who has actively worked against rapes and other crimes against women and children in the country.
