Prof. Dr. R. GOPAL is basically an Engineer from I.I.T., Kharagpur in Mechanical Engineering. Subsequently he did his MBA, ICWA, PhD and Post-Doctoral Research degree — D. Litt.

Prof. Dr. R. Gopal has more than 27 years of CORPORATE EXPERIENCE at Bush India Ltd., Larsen and Toubro, Tata Economic Consultancy Services and at Siemens. As General Manger, Siemens Ltd he was responsible for drawing the strategic Plan of the organization and implementing the same. He has also launched several new products in the areas of electric and   electronic areas like the Uninterruptible power supply system. He was also responsible for the turnaround of the organization. He was deputed to Germany where he was responsible for preparing the strategic plan for several of the European subsidiaries.

He is also a member of the Board of Directors of several corporate bodies.

Prof. Dr. R. Gopal was the former Director, Head of the Department and Dean of the D.Y. Patil deemed to be University, School of Management.

Prior to joining D Y. Patil University, Prof. Dr. R. Gopal had more than 30 years of TEACHING EXPERIENCE in various B Schools in and around Mumbai in the areas of Marketing, Finance, and General Management etc.

He was also the visiting faculty in several B Schools in USA. In the USA, he has conducted several programs on topics like “How to Business in India”.

As the Director of the D. Y. Patil University, Prof Dr. R. Gopal had successfully turned around the School of Management into a successful leading and premier school of management not only in Mumbai but also in India.

He had launched several new programs in business management. In 2025, the school of Management had around 1500 students compared to around less than 100 students in 2006 when he took charge of the institute.

As a leader of the business school, he has motivated all his faculties to write research papers, copyright papers and also patent their findings.

He has also led a team to conduct industry projects. One of the significant projects was the Market study done for radioactive products carried for BRITS – a subsidiary of the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.

He has also conduced several training programs to various industry houses especially in the areas of strategic management, marketing strategies etc. 

He has also published more than 200 research papers both in Indian and foreign journals. He has been awarded the BEST OUTSTANDING RESEARCH PAPER at the Asia Pacific Marketing Conference held in Malaysia.  

He is also a reviewer to several international journals having a high impact factor.

He is well conversant with the rules of AICTE as well as the UGC rules and also, the New Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). He has conducted several Faculty Development Programs in different colleges highlighting the way forward for implementation of the NEP 2020.

He is the guide for M. Phil and Ph.D. students of several universities in India. More than 100 research scholars have received their PhD and M. Phil degree under his guidance.

He is also the author of several books and is the Chief Editor to several national and international journals of repute. Additionally, he has written several books on Management which have been highly received by the student and corporate community. Some of the Books that he has published are
