Shri Subhankar Sen is Director (Marketing), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a Maharatna Public Sector Undertaking and a Fortune Global 500 company. In this role, he leads BPCL’s nationwide marketing portfolio encompassing Retail, LPG, Lubricants, Aviation, Industrial and Commercial, Gas, Consumer Retailing, Engineering and Projects, Pipelines, Central Procurement Organisation, Digital Business, Corporate Brand, and Public Relations.

With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, Shri Sen has led several pioneering initiatives across fuel retailing, lubricants marketing, customer experience, and the energy transition. He is widely regarded as a transformation-oriented leader, known for building empowered teams, strengthening strategic partnerships, and fostering a culture of continual learning. His leadership places strong emphasis on innovation, brand trust, technology-led solutions, operational excellence, and long-term value creation.

Shri Sen has played a significant role in shaping BPCL’s MAK Lubricants business through best-in-class research, development, and marketing initiatives. With a strong focus on Atmanirbhar Bharat, he led MAK Lubricants’ indigenisation drive and advanced the MAK Lubricants Solutions programme, aimed at reducing the total cost of ownership for customers. Under his leadership, the lubricants business expanded its footprint across India and international markets including Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the UAE, and Africa, supported by a nationwide distribution network, partnerships with leading OEMs, and a growing B2C and B2B customer base.

As Business Head, Retail (West), Shri Sen led BPCL’s automotive energy business through a network of over 6,000 energy stations, strengthening BPCL’s market position through technology-enabled and differentiated customer value propositions. His professional journey across multiple roles and geographies within BPCL has shaped him into a versatile and effective business leader. Under his guidance, BPCL also advanced its non-fuel retail initiatives, including the launch of BeCafe, an experiential café format introduced at BPCL fuel stations.

Shri Sen has been a key member of BPCL’s strategy team and has contributed to the development of several pioneering brands and customer platforms, including Pure for Sure, Speed, PetroBonus, SmartFleet, BPCL-SBI Card, In&Out stores, and UFill. He has built strategic alliances across the quick-service restaurant, banking, retail, and automobile sectors. As Oil Industry Coordinator, he contributed to India’s energy-transition journey by working with policymakers and leading BPCL’s eDrive programme for EV Fast Charging Corridors. He also played a leadership role in the implementation of Doorstep Diesel Delivery, an important reform providing efficient fuel solutions to industrial and commercial establishments.

Shri Sen is also the Chairman of Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), with effect from 1 April 2026. In the current context of India’s transition towards cleaner fuels, his role at IGL assumes particular significance. IGL is a key city gas distribution company with a large CNG and PNG customer base, and its operations are closely aligned with national priorities of energy security, cleaner mobility, urban air-quality improvement, and sustainable infrastructure. As Chairman, Shri Sen brings to IGL his extensive experience in marketing, customer-centric transformation, digital enablement, and clean-energy solutions, supporting the company’s continued contribution to India’s natural gas and low-carbon mobility ecosystem.
