Building Cyber Resilience Across Operational Technology

Overview:

Operational technology, the systems that run production lines, power networks, pipelines and warehouses, was long protected by isolation. That assumption no longer holds. Plants are now linked to enterprise networks and cloud services, remote access has become routine, and ageing equipment that was never built with security in mind sits alongside modern IT. When an attack reaches this layer, the cost is measured in stopped production, not only lost data.

The Times Group Think Tank, powered by Kaspersky, with Frost & Sullivan as research partner, is built around that shift. This roundtable centres on OT security and gives the room a practical view of how to see, protect and recover industrial environments without disrupting operations. The evening begins with registration from 6:30 PM onwards and opens with two 10-minute presentations. Kaspersky will present a threat intelligence briefing showing how an understanding of adversary behaviour can sharpen those decisions, and Frost & Sullivan will share its independent research findings on the OT cybersecurity landscape. Frost & Sullivan will then join the roundtable as a panelist.

Kaspersky brings its industrial research to the discussion, with its ICS CERT having investigated threats to industrial systems since 2016. Frost & Sullivan joins as research partner, contributing independent findings on the OT cybersecurity landscape and a seat on the panel.

Rationale:

Industrial digitisation is expanding the attack surface of environments designed for reliability and isolation, not continuous connectivity. Remote access, connected machinery, industrial IoT, third-party integrations and IT/OT convergence are creating new pathways to operational systems.

Kaspersky ICS CERT data from the first half of 2026 shows what that looks like:

🛡️

Nearly one in five ICS computers faced blocked malicious activity. Malicious objects were blocked on 19.2% of ICS computers in Kaspersky’s telemetry in Q2 2026. That is lower than the previous quarter, but it shows industrial environments remain exposed.

🌏

South Asia recorded the highest regional rate of blocked internet-based threats. The rate reached 10.35% in Q2 2026, ahead of South-East Asia in second place at 9.65%. This points to the need to examine internet exposure and connectivity risks inside industrial environments.

📈

Threat patterns are changing even as some indicators decline. Globally, malicious documents blocked on ICS computers rose from 1.56% in Q1 2026 to 1.77% in Q2. Ransomware rose from 0.14% to 0.16%.

🏭

Manufacturing needs particular attention. In Q1 2026, the share of manufacturing ICS computers with blocked malicious objects increased in 10 regions.

The leadership challenge, therefore, is to translate threat awareness into operational preparedness. Organisations must understand where their industrial assets are exposed, how to prioritise risks that could interrupt operations, and how to coordinate cybersecurity, engineering and business continuity teams around a common resilience agenda.

The Think Tank will provide a forum for leaders to examine these questions through the lens of business continuity, operational risk and industrial resilience.

Discussion Pointers:

1Applying Risk-Based Prioritisation to OT Security+

Understand how to prioritise industrial assets and vulnerabilities based on their potential impact on production continuity, safety, equipment availability and business performance, rather than relying on conventional IT risk classifications alone.

2Mapping the IT–OT Attack Surface+

Identify the exposure created by connected industrial assets, legacy control systems, remote access and third-party integrations, and apply practical approaches to improving asset visibility, network segmentation and access governance.

3Using Threat Intelligence to Anticipate Industrial Threats+

Interpret relevant threat intelligence to understand attacker behaviour, identify emerging risks to industrial environments and strengthen the ability of security and operations teams to anticipate and prepare for potential disruptions.

4Implementing Resilience Without Disrupting Operations+

Apply security practices that account for the availability, safety and performance requirements of industrial systems, while balancing vulnerability management, patching constraints, detection capabilities and production uptime.

5Building a Unified OT Cybersecurity Response+

Develop a shared approach across CISOs, CIOs, plant heads, engineering teams and business continuity leaders to clarify responsibilities, coordinate incident response and align OT security investments with measurable business resilience outcomes.
